In the beginning...
The year was 1999. Germany was the place. Computer viruses were all the rage and had been making headlines for years, but the term 'spyware' was new and just beginning to show its menacing face. Computer users around the world became more and more frustrated with each passing day as the anti-virus industry remained in denial and refused to address the increasingly vicious forms of spyware and malware. Macecraft started in early 1998 as a hobby of a student called Jouni Vuorio. Right from the beginning the main focus was on computer maintenance and cleaning, the first program was a freeware tool called RegCleaner which was one of the first registry cleaner applications in the World and the very first software uninstaller.
There was still a need for more features, therefore in 2001 the development of a full Windows cleaning and tuneup suite started. Originally called "Project X" the lightweight utility suite later became known as "jv16 PowerTools". The name originates from the developer's initials Jouni Vuorio and 16 was the age he started to develop RegCleaner (to which jv16 PowerTools was much based on). The jv16 PowerTools project also started as freeware.
Macecraft Software (Macecraft Inc.) was officially established in 2003 when the author converted jv16 PowerTools to shareware and continued the development as work instead of just a hobby.
